Many of you have copies of "Buffalo Grass Tales" put together by Dennis Anderson. Dennis transcribed his Grandpa's journal, titled it, and distributed to family. I was reading it the other day and ran across a story Dad wrote about Santa Claus. This seemed like a great place and time to re-share the story:
"Jan 1994...I was in the second grade. I wasn't liking school much better and Belle Bowen was my teacher. I renewed by acquaintance with Jennings so I decided to further my education. It was this year I learned the truth about Santa Claus.
I still remember the dumb kids in my class making snide remarks about S.C. and I fully expected to be struck by lightning for just associating with them. I nailed Mom down and she enlightened me. I still felt pretty low. I kinda wish she hadn't told me 'cause I sure believed in him!"

As most know, Dad was a storyteller. I wrote so much like he talked. I thought I would share some insight to some of the above from my point of view. Dad never liked school! He said that had it not been for Ralph Jennings (best friend and smart) and basketball he probably would have been a high school dropout. Belle Bowen was his teacher at the time their dad left the family. She would ask Dad, "Have you heard from your dad?" "Has your dad come home?" At the time these comments were hurtful and embarrassing to Dad. He seemed to associate the painful memory with this teacher. I knew Ms. Bowen and I didn't like her either.
Several generations ago our family ties were strengthened through extended family
gatherings and reunions. Our family tree continues to grow and the family branches are
spreading around the country. Reunions are fun and hopefully we'll experience them again.
In the meantime, lets try a family blog to reconnect and become acquainted with our
families. Larry David has set up this family blog.
Here is a venue for all of us to use. We can share family news, tell stories, share
memories and pictures, etc. Please join the blog and become an active participant.
Only family members will be able to read or write on the blog. You must respond to your
email invitation to join the Nuttle Family blog and you must set up a Google account.
Welcome to the Nuttle Family blog.

Great story! Give us more.
Did you mean 1934?
The date (Jan 1994) was from the journal and that was when Dad recorded this "memory". Sorry for the confusion!
When we lived in the house in Arnold, Belle was our neighbor she was always on us about playing in her yard. Not that Rob, Russ or I would ever get out of hand or be rowdy or anything like that.
Claudia,
I'd like to get a copy of that book if I could.
