Osage Beach, Mo. —
The wait is over. The School of the Osage Board of Education has selected a superintendent to assume the responsibilities of heading up the district for the 2011-2012 school year.
Dr. Brent Depeé (pronounced De-pay) of Spokane, Mo., has been chosen as the new superintendent. He will begin his duties at the beginning of the next school year July 1, 2011.
Depeé succeeds Dr. Mary Ann Johnson, who has served the district in that capacity for seven years and who has been with the district for 13 years.
Depeé began his tenure as superintendent at Spokane R-VII in Highlandville south of Springfield in 2007. He began his teaching career in 1993 at Stockton R-I and in 1996 moved to Warsaw R-IX as a teacher and finished his last six years there as building principal.
“Speaking on behalf of the entire board, we’re looking forward to working with Dr. Depeé,” noted Jay Edwards, board president.
In his tenure at Spokane, the district received Distinction in Performance each year he was there and in 2009 the Middle School was awarded Gold Star status as one of the top six performing and improving schools in the state.
Spokane R-VII, located in Christian County, has an enrollment of 745 students, according to the 2009-2010 Missouri School Directory. The district’s assessed value is estimated at $54,871,458.
He received his bachelor of science degree from Southwest Baptist University in Bolivar in 1991. He earned master’s and educational specialist’s degrees from Southwest Baptist in 1996 and 2006 respectively. He earned his doctorate in education from Lindenwood University in St. Charles in 2009.
Dr. Depeé and his wife, who is a registered nurse, have three children: Mackenzie, a high school freshman; Dalton, a fourth grader; and Dayne, 3.
Dr. Johnson was hired by former Superintendent Dalton Ham and was assistant superintendent under Stan Johnson until he took a job with the Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education at which time she became superintendent. She is only the district’s sixth superintendent since it was formed in the early 1930s.
She announced her retirement in August.
